Discover the world with this informal, discussion-oriented program. Each month we host a presentation on a specific travel destination, discussing both the nuts and bolts of travel as well as the intricacies of cultural exchange. About half the time is spent hearing from our speaker and the rest in dialogue. Ask questions, share stories, provide your travel insights. Bring a friend!

Robert Barendregt Nepal Presentation

Join freelance photographer and travel guide, Robert Barendregt, for the first installment in our Travelers' Circles series.

This presentation is split in two parts. The first will highlight the 3 Royal Cities in the Kathmandu Valley: Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur. You will see historical sites like the Royal Palaces and temples with their beautiful decorations. You will also learn about everyday life in this valley. Wander the streets of Thamel (down town Kathmandu). Experience public cremations on the shore of a river.

The second part will show the trekking and climbing destinations in the region. From the journey to the starting point by bus you will follow Robert through small villages and rainforest to the bare mountains. With breathtaking scenery of mountains between 20,000 and 26,000 feet Robert will take you to the summit of a 20,000 high mountain. Experience life during 3-4 weeks in the mountains.

This presentation will highlight hiking destinations in the Highlands of Scotland. Starting in Edinburgh Robert will take you on hikes from the Grampian Mountains and the Ben Nevis Area to the islands like Mull and Skye. Experience hikes using B&B's and hikes where self sufficiency will be key. Encounter wildlife, sunsets in the glens, and climbing Ben Nevis. This presentation gives an idea how to plan your trip, and what kind of weather you may encounter. Do not expect trails, but have fun in route finding.

Join freelance photographer and travel guide, Robert Barendregt, for the third installment in our Travelers' Circles series.

You will not visit Paris during this presentation, but the countryside. Starting in Brittany Robert will take you to the granite coasts and the through regional churches. From there the journey will lead you through the Loire with breathtaking castles. The journey will then take you to the Alsace where you will see the most picturesque villages. The journey then continues via Burgundy to the southern region of France where Robert will guide you on a trip from the Provence, Cote d'Azur, and Monaco to the Languedoc near the Spanish border. Besides the well known places in these areas you will get an impression of the country side and their differences. Enjoy the scenery.
